OLLI Spring Term Update

As you already know, OLLI at WVU has suspended all activities through April 5. Although, at the time of this announcement, there are no confirmed cases of COVID 19 in West Virginia, the virus is spreading rapidly and extensively.

In the interest of “flattening the curve” and helping minimize the risk of exposure to our members, the OLLI Board of Directors decided at this morning’s board meeting to delay the start of our spring term to May 4. The OLLI office will remain open.

Therefore, spring term has been rescheduled to May 4 through June 27. Classes, activities, and events currently scheduled for the months of May and June will proceed as planned for now. We are working with our wonderful volunteer instructors to reschedule those currently scheduled to begin in April. We may also be offering online options of some classes.

Registration will begin as scheduled on Monday, March 16, for the Morgantown program and Wednesday, March 25, for the Charleston program. Then, if you are unable to attend a class for which you register that is rescheduled, OLLI can issue you a credit for an upcoming term or a refund if you wish.

I want to thank all of our members, volunteers, instructors, and friends for your continued support of OLLI at WVU and ask that you be patient over the next couple of weeks as the staff and board monitor the situation and work to provide the best possible lifelong learning experiences for our members.

Combatting social isolation is an important part of OLLI’s mission but, unfortunately, it seems that physically distancing ourselves from each other may be a successful way to prevent the spread of this disease. Therefore, we are investigating many alternative methods of keeping us all connected over the next few weeks. With OLLIs across the country are grappling with closures, the directors and staffs are sharing ideas and working on possible collaborations to provide online content.

Please watch the OLLI Friday bulletin and special email announcements for updates. If you have an email address but are not receiving the Friday bulletin, please call the OLLI office at 304-293-1793 to have yourself added to the list. If you do not have a computer or use email, please feel free to call us as frequently as you wish. We will mail important updates as often as possible to those for whom we do not have an email address on file.

If you are a current OLLI member, we will arrive a copy of this in the mail within a few days. Althought it may seem like a waste of time and paper, I want to make sure all of our members are informed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Thank you and stay safe!
