    ​​​​​​​Operas: I did not put the final two Met in HD encores in my last column. One of them, “Barber of Seville,” was last night, and the very last one is scheduled for Wed., July 17 at 7 PM at the Regal Hollywood cinema: Anna Netrebko’s “Aida,” that may be the last time this production will be shown, since the Met is likely to mount a new production the next time it is on the schedule.

  • Clinical Research Volunteers Needed

    Dr. Shafic Sraj is seeking older adult with unrestricted hand use for a research study. Volunteers will be asked to perform a short series of manual strength tests, including grip, key pinch, and three point pinch, in both hands. The test will take only 5 to 10 minutes. Medical students and pre-medical undgraduates will be at OLLI on Mondays, July 15-29 at 2:30 p.m., and Tuesdays and Fridays, July 16-30 at 11:30 a.m. to conduct the tests in classroom B. If you’re interested in volunteering, simply stop in. Pre-registration is not required.

  • Microsoft eBooks and the Problem with DRM

    You may have heard that Microsoft is shuttering its eBook store. If you're like most people, you didn't even know Microsoft SOLD eBooks. This was a venture started in 2017 that pretty much failed out of the gate, since you could only access it from the MS Edge web browser. If you by some strange chance purchased an eBook from the Microsoft store, you will be refunded the complete price you paid for the books, because Microsoft will be removing those books from the libraries of the purchasers.
